Bikers' Breakfast at the Riviera on Vaal

Bikers’ Breakfast at the Riviera on Vaal

Why should you drive your car to the Riviera on Vaal when you can be a biker and be spoilt with a Bikers’ Breakfast on Sundays?

The Riviera on Vaal Hotel caters for everyone, from business men to bikers. Whether you’re a business man, a biker or both, you can now ride your bike to the Resort early Sunday mornings and start your day off with their popular Bikers’ Breakfast at R99.00 per (helmeted) person.

While you’re at it, why not book a spa treatment at the Zorgvliet Spa? You could also enjoy a game of pitch and putt at the Riviera on Vaal Country Club, or take part in some watersport activities with Twin Boats offering a wide range of aqua adventures. This includes waterskiing, speedboating and wakeboarding.

If you feel the day might become too long after enjoying some Matthews cocktails down at the pool, why not consider sleeping over? You might even be lucky enough to go on one of the Petit Verdot Floating Restaurant’s scheduled Moonlight Cruises. The options are endless.

So when will you be showing off your Harley at the Riviera on Vaal? Make a booking by calling 016 420 1300 or send an email to reservations@rivieraonvaal.co.za.

Of course you’d like to know how to make a hearty cake. Especially with Valentine’s Day coming up, right?

So, as the RiverBlogger for the Riviera on Vaal, research forms part of almost everything I do. So does Pinterest, which is where I came across a very inspiring recipe explaining how to bake a cake with a red heart in the middle!

Source: iammommy.typepad.com via Renate on Pinterest

Thanks to the I am Baker Blog, I can now tell you how to do this in a few easy steps:

  • Bake four white cakes of about 20cm in diameter
  • Make one red velvet cake of about 25 x 35cm
  • Level all the white cakes
  • Now add ½ cup to 1 cup of frosting between two white cakes. You need to have two two-layer cakes from the original four white cakes.
  • Now run your fork through the red velvet cake to break it up. Add a cup of frosting to the broken up red velvet cake and mix well.
  • Put the cakes in the refrigerator for about an hour.
  • Now take two toothpicks and a piece of twine. Place one toothpick in the middle of the one two-layer cake. Holding it firmly, drag the outside toothpick around the outside of the cake to form a circle. This is just to indicate to yourself where you need to carve. Apply this method to the second two-layer cake as well.
  • Now, using the line of the circle, cut diagonally to the centre to form a circular V-shape in the cake. (This is done only with the one two-layer cake.)
  • For the top half of the heart, use the second two-layer cake. Start with your knife in the middle of the cake this time and cut a little island. Now use the circular line that you drew with the toothpicks and start inwards to leave the island in the middle of the cake. You may also use a spoon to create more detail.
  • Now you can start filling the two cakes with the red velvet cake.
  • After filling them, put the cake with the “island” in the middle on top of the other cake and put it in the refrigerator to let the cakes set for a while.
  • Cover the cake with frosting and let the cake set for about an hour.
  • When your guests arrive, cut the cake and show them the love!

Looking for some new napkin folding ideas for functions? Well, here are a few options to choose from:
Napkins for entertaining
Napkins for weddings
Napkins for Thanksgiving

Source: stylemepretty.com via Riviera on Vaal Hotel & Country Club on Pinterest

Napkins seem so simplistic, yet they can be the final touch to a perfect looking table. You can fold your napkin into the diamond envelope fold, which looks very sophisticated. Here are the instructions:

  • Iron the square shaped napkin flat.
  • Fold the napkin in half and orient the open end toward you.
  • Fold the napkin into quarters.
  • Orient the napkin so that the open end is now facing away from you.
  • Fold the top most layer almost all the way forward and press it down flat.
  • Fold the next top most layer forward almost as far as the previous one and press it down as well. Make sure the edges are even with the previous fold.
  • Fold the next layer as you did the previous two.
  • Turn the napkin over and fold the right side back about one third of the way.
  • Fold the left side back and over the right side (about one third of the way), check for symmetry and press the fold down.
  • Flip the napkin over and insert your silverware into the diamond envelope.
