Many people say it’s all about SEO rankings, RSS feeds and the amount of followers you have as a blogger that ensures your success. This might hold some truth, but the tips below are just as true when it comes to the art of being a travel blogger:

The art of being a travel blogger

The art of being a travel blogger

Travel bloggers need to constantly come up with interesting ideas. Travel blog readers are not interested in how many Twitter or Facebook followers you have. They want to read your story. So before you just write a random blog post, make sure that you really have something interesting to say.

Plan carefully. Don’t just blog about anything. Get to know your readers and what they are interested in. Develop a blogging schedule which includes something of everything that is relevant to your travel blog. Have a look at the types of blog posts written on blogonvaal for both Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club, as well as Maccauvlei on Vaal’s different types of guests and readers here: Blogonvaal. Treat your readers like friends – after all, they are the ones who support your blog.

Have you ever reached a point where you didn’t know what to blog about? I suppose we could call it bloggers-block? Take a piece of paper and scribble down the interesting spots in your local area. Which insects or animals roam your area that you don’t usually see elsewhere? Take a look at your sunsets in comparison to other places’ sunsets and blog about the differences. Dig up some history about the town or city’s street names or its previous inhabitants. From that you will most definitely get new inspiration for more stories. It is possible to be a traveller in your local area too.

Have a look at more of the Riviera on Vaal and Maccauvlei on Vaal’s blog posts about the Vaal Triangle and see how many topics you could get from one region here: The Vaal Triangle on Blogonvaal.

Well, as far as River Reports go this is really one for the history books as we have had a lovely, snowy week at Riviera on Vaal. Tuesday surprised us with a beautiful blanket of snow covering the entire Riviera on Vaal golf course and giving Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club a special shine. With Glüwein and Truffles on offer at the hotel it almost felt like Christmas in August. With the rest of the week still quite chilly, the Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club warmed things up with a delicious Women’s Day lunch in Matthews Restaurant this week, sharing their pride of South African women with their guests and the locals of the Vaal Triangle.

They provide blankets, clothes and food to unprivileged children of the Vaal Community. For more information on Matt’s Foundation, send an email to helpus@mattsfoundation.co.za.

Could it be the “Breaking Dawn” for Riviera on Vaal’s blog too? It sure is, as this is our first post for blogonvaal. “About time,” you might add. Well, as the RiverBlogger, I can promise you one thing: special experiences for special people will be coming to life on this blog.

The same goes for the breakfasts served at Riviera on Vaal Hotel. At Matthews Restaurant, the breakfast team is up and running before six in the morning. In fact, by that time, the larger part of the buffet is already laid out. It is their mission to provide you, their special guest, with the best experience possible; even if it’s at 05:30 on a Monday morning. The buffet that is laid out resembles a little piece of heaven, I’d say. It’s not your normal continental display. ROV’s breakfast buffet layout has a feel of elegance, adding to the early morning shimmer of the Vaal River underneath its misty blanket. It’s a feast of freshly baked pastries, gourmet muffins and a wide spread of crackers, cheese and condiments. And that’s only the appetizer. You head to the pancake station, where the chef boasts her moves by flipping your pancake – teasing your taste buds just a little while longer. Heading back to your table, you note the wide selection of cold meats and you can’t help but wish you had a second belly and a little more time. With the aromas of freshly brewed coffee, you wouldn’t mind staying a while longer. The selections are endless: fresh fruits, dried fruits, fruit salads, nuts, yoghurts and many, many cereals. It’s only then you get to the good part: grilled sausages, bacon (the best I’ve ever tasted), sautéed tomato slices, mince, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sautéed mushrooms, waffles, and to top it all off: the beautiful, mysterious view of the Vaal River perfectly paired with a cup of Matthews Cappuccino. Talk about special experiences!
